Tactile advancements

Burt® continues to push the envelope

Virtual objects that can be felt in the real world

We have leveraged our unique technology to exciting new heights. LaundryLoader™ now has haptic objects that give the feel of navigating a real space, with only a robot and a screen.

What is meant by haptic objects?

When moving around objects like the laundry machines, tables, or shelves in game, the robot will resist movement when the patient would be interacting with that object. This results in the patient feeling like they are hitting a solid obstacle.

Patient moves the hand into the front of the washing machine while trying to place a skirt.

Burt® prevents forward movement - the patient must move to the circular opening of the washing machine to place the laundry.

Therapeutic Benefit

Haptic objects help tie the LaundryLoader™ ADL more directly to the real-life activity the patient is practicing. Some patients may have trouble understanding the space they need to move in with just a screen. Now, they will now also have tactile cues to help naturally guide their actions. Plus, the haptic objects enforce the more complex movements needed for activities of daily living by preventing the patient from taking the direct path “through” the virtual objects.
